‘Vi Protect’, an AI-Powered Safety Suite to Fight Scams & Spam, Unlock the Details.!

Oct 12, 2025

Vodafone Idea (Vi) has unveiled Vi Protect — an artificial intelligence-based safety suite designed to combat spam, scams, and cyber threats. Announced at the India Mobile Congress 2025, the initiative reflects Vi’s renewed focus on digital safety as online fraud cases continue to rise nationwide.

What Vi Protect Offers

According to Vi, the AI system will proactively identify suspicious calls, messages, and patterns using behavioral analysis. Once flagged, the system will alert users in real time or block malicious content automatically.

“With Vi Protect, we’re not just building a network — we’re building trust,” said a Vi spokesperson. “Our goal is to make mobile communication safer for every user.”

Growing Threats, Growing Awareness

India is now one of the top countries affected by mobile spam and phishing. According to a TRAI estimate, the country saw a 45% increase in telecom-based cybercrimes between 2023 and 2025. Vi’s AI suite aims to counter this trend by integrating real-time monitoring and predictive AI models directly into its telecom infrastructure.

Expert Reactions

  • Rajesh Sharma, Cybersecurity Analyst: “Telcos can no longer remain passive. AI-powered safeguards like Vi Protect could redefine customer security expectations.”
  • Tech Policy Forum India: “This could push the regulator to make network-level AI protection mandatory for all operators.”

Key Highlights at a Glance

  • Launch: October 2025 at India Mobile Congress
  • Features: Spam blocking, scam detection, threat alerts
  • Availability: Rolling out to all Vi users by December 2025
  • AI Engine: Vi’s in-house trained predictive model

The Bigger Picture

With Jio and Airtel also exploring similar technologies, Vi’s move could spark an industry-wide race toward AI-backed network safety. The launch also positions Vodafone Idea as a tech-forward telecom operator amid its ongoing financial restructuring.

Experts believe initiatives like Vi Protect may become mandatory in future under new Digital Safety Frameworks being reviewed by the Indian government.

Editor’s Insight

“In 2025, telecom safety has become as important as connectivity. Vi Protect shows how AI can guard millions — quietly, efficiently, and intelligently.”
